Meeting Golfer’s Needs with Advanced Technology
In recent years, the diversity in iron structures has grown significantly, leading manufacturers to offer a variety of models. This shift, once unimaginable, is thanks to advancements in manufacturing technology that align closely with golfers’ needs.
At PROTOCONCEPT, the irons we craft, notably the C05 and C07, exemplify this evolution. They are created by precision-molding the internal structure of their soft iron forged bodies and welding a high-strength chrome molybdenum steel face. This process enhances the face’s repulsion performance, generating more energy, which translates to increased distance and ball height. The C05 and C07, in particular, feature a face designed with thickness variation, utilizing machining techniques to balance initial speed with a satisfying post-strike feel.
This structural approach allows for a center of gravity that delivers the desired feel and trajectory for target golfers, creating models that are forgiving and facilitate easier ball height elevation — a benefit for many golfers.
Generally, the use of various materials and more complex head structures aims to boost performance. These details are meant to enhance physical performance aspects like distance, tolerance, and ease of raising ball height.
In simpler terms, these are “supplementary” performance factors. The club has the capability to fulfill golfers’ needs, such as improving ball flight or being more forgiving on mis-hits. Since the average amateur golfer doesn’t possess the skill or power of a pro, it makes sense for the performance of such clubs to assist them.
Conversely, there’s performance achievable only with single-piece soft iron forged clubs like the C03TC. In essence, they offer a pure unity of metal, not just providing a good feel and sound, but also enriching the golfer’s strike image, like the feel of capturing the ball and a solid, crisp feeling. This is a key reason why many male pros are reluctant to give up their soft iron forged musclebacks.
While some argue that single-material soft iron forged irons have reached their performance limits, with the C03TC, we’ve elevated the performance of soft iron integrated cavity irons to a higher level by utilizing a more precise center of gravity design for each club number.
The C01TB ic is even more special. By incorporating ceramic, which has a much lower specific gravity than iron, into soft iron forged muscleback irons, we’ve achieved forgiveness and center of gravity settings that are challenging with a single material muscleback. These next-generation muscleback irons were created using the complex technology of molding a soft iron round rod and ceramic in an integrated forging process.
Golfers who prefer musclebacks are typically highly skilled and powerful. The C01TB ic offers forgiveness and ease of raising ball height without losing the sense of pure unity and feel they seek. Even if a club can increase distance and tolerances, it won’t be chosen by discerning professionals if it lacks the pure sense of unity required of a muscleback.
As manufacturing technology advances, the performance features of clubs have greatly diversified. This is crucial in assisting golfers, but we believe the basic functions required of a club should not be lost. And what PROTOCONCEPT pursues is precisely such basic performance.
