Patriot Golf Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tour Talk with PROTOCONCEPT - VOL.28

The end is near! This week is the third of the four event Korn Ferry Tour Finals. Held at The Patriot Golf Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Compliance Solutions Championship is the last chance for players to move into the top 75 on points list and earn a chance to play for one of the 20 PGA Tour cards available next week. The Patriot Golf Club is hosting this event for the first time, so it is a new venue for all the players. Feelings were mixed as to what it would take to score well here.

The greens are very pure, but players will need to be in the correct quadrant near the pin to have a chance to make putts. Three putts are very possible if you don't land in the proper area with your approach shot. Lack of wind during the practice days made the fairways seems wide, but I've been told that if it gets windy (which is the norm around there), the players will feel very different about them. It sounds like scorers should be low if the wind doesn't blow, but if it does it will be a whole different story.

PROTOCONCEPT clubs in Dan McCarthy's bag

There isn't much to report concerning player interactions this week. I have two new players to build wedges for after the season is over, I'll touch base with them again next week.

Dan practicing

Since things were slow on the range, I had a chance to follow Dan around for a few holes and watch him prepare for this week. When players have not seen a course before, their practice rounds are slow and methodical. Dan chipped, putted, and hit sand shots from many different areas around the greens, trying to get a feel for how they break and the speed of each one. It is always fun watching a professional in action. Dan is "on the outside looking in" and will need a top 20 or better to qualify for next week. The pressure will be on but I know he has what it takes to have a good finish this week. Good Luck Dan!

Next week - The final event of the season for Korn Ferry. The Korn Ferry Tour Championship in French Lick Indiana.
