Tour Report with PROTOCONCEPT - VOL.37

The Korn Ferry Visit Knoxville Open, held at Holston Hills C.C. in Knoxville, Tennessee, is quickly becoming my favorite event of the year.

Not because of the Donald Ross designed course which opened in 1927. Not because this course features strategically placed bunkers and small multi-tiered undulating greens. Not because of the great restaurants serving tasty southern food the area is famously known to have.

The reason is that the tough course conditions have players looking for different wedge options, and that has brought them to me two years in a row. The bag was pilfered of most of my 58 and 60 degree wedges. Extremely tight lie conditions around the greens were giving players a new challenge that they are not used to dealing with much of the year. Good news for me!

Dan McCarthy is in the field this week. We worked extensively on his 60 degree RR SP wedge. I needed to grind even more bounce off and round the sole so he could get down to the ball and not bounce into his short chips. We also experimented with the 58 NT sole since it has similar qualities to what I was doing to the SP sole.
He was happy with both options and when I left on Wednesday, he had not made up his mind as to which he would use this week.

In addition to working with Dan and others on wedges, one of our current ambassadors tested our C03 TC iron and wants to further discuss building him a set for testing.
He was at Open qualifying on Monday, so the short practice week didn’t give him enough time to work on anything new.

You can see why Knoxville is quickly becoming my favorite event of the season. I love being busy and sharing all the great qualities of PROTOCONCEPT equipment.
