Tour Report with PROTOCONCEPT - VOL.46

Once again, I headed to Ogden Utah for the Utah Championship hosted by Ogden Golf and Country Club.

This is the second time Ogden Golf and Country Club has hosted this event. Originally opened as a nine-hole course and skeet shooting venue in 1914, the second nine holes were added in 1948.

This just over 7,000-yard par 70 track has lots of character, incredible mountain views, large elevation changes and very small greens with lots of undulation.

The winner this week will need to drive the ball straight to avoid the long rough lining the fairways. Long hitters will definitely have the advantage this week if they can keep it in the short grass.

The one negative to this venue is the practice facility. The range is very small (since it was
originally the skeet shooting range) only allowing around 15 players to hit balls at a time.

With a field of over 150 players, guys were waiting in line for a chance to practice.

The temperatures are in the high 90’s to low 100’s this week, making it difficult to stay in the sun for long periods.

In addition, a local fire in the hills around the course made the air quality unhealthful. No long practice sessions were happening due to all those factors, which translates to very little interest in looking at new equipment.

Dan McCarthy played well last week finishing in the top 25. If he can keep the momentum going and have another good showing, it could move him into good position for the finals.

I was able to do a little more testing of our future iron product and received more positive results.

This product is showing great launch, spin and distance control, everything a player could ask for in an iron.

I delivered an RR FORGED WEDGE 60AG to a player that asked for one last week. His practice time with it showed promise. I will follow up with him next time I see him and see how things are going.
